Last week, we celebrated International Guide Dog Day (IGDD) and we kicked off our 60th Birthday celebrations with the launch of a ‘Puppy Tram’ – a tram covered in our gorgeous pups. Thanks to PTV, our Puppy Tram will be on the streets of Melbourne until May 15.
On IGDD, Wednesday 27 April, we held a very special Government House event celebrating the contributions of our volunteers, supporters and partners over the past 60 years. The event was hosted in conjunction with Guide Dogs Victoria Patron and Governor, Linda Dessau. We took the opportunity to surprise the Governor with a puppy that is named after her – “Dessau”. She and her husband were genuinely surprised and just delighted by the gesture!
The Government House event also provided the opportunity to present our IGDD Awards to some very worthy recipients. Our annual award recipients are:-
- Independence Award – Paul Foote (Employee) and Merle Atherton (Volunteer)
- Freedom Award – Paul Wheelton AM
- Inspiration Award (Joint) – City of Boroondara and Travellers Aide
- Community Access Awards (New Category, nominations by clients) – Metro Trains (Malcolm Browning) and Achilles Running Club (Amanda Kwong)
Congratulations to all recipients!
One final note, to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee we have produced a beautiful commemorative newspaper – The Puppy Press and a limited edition lapel pin. You can get your very own by signing up through the link here.
