Guide Dogs Victoria

Year in Review

Guide Dogs Victoria is a heritage brand with spirit and innovation. 2018 was a big year and it’s been fun! We supported more new Clients than ever before. We created new employment opportunities for people with vision loss. We made Victoria more welcoming and inclusive.

Check out how we did it!

Our Clients

Our Clients come first. At Guide Dogs Victoria our goal is to support our Clients, from babies to seniors, to live an independent life full of adventure. Whether this includes taking the kids camping, completing a triathlon or learning to tap dance, we know there is no limit to what our Clients can achieve. We provide a whole range of pawesome services and programs including Occupational Therapy and Mobility Services for children and adults. Take a look and see.

Innovation

Can you imagine what it would be like to have to navigate Southern Cross Station if you were blind? Even if you were familiar with the station, how would you avoid temporary structures, closed platforms and faulty lifts? That’s where Beacon technology comes in.

Community Education

What’s it like to feel your way through a crowded footpath when you have limited vision? How do you know which tram to get on? How do you know the difference between a $10 and $20 dollar note? At Dialogue in the Dark, you will learn you are so much more than sight.

FUNdraising

A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated this year! We couldn’t do what we do without you. It costs more than $50K to raise a Guide Dog. And with less than 9% funding from the government, we are always on the lookout for interesting and innovative fundraising ideas to help us support more Clients and breed and train the best dogs.

Media Coverage

Guide Dogs Victoria, works hard to raise awareness. In 2018 our media reach was 69.5 Million. This means that the average Victorian heard about, read about or saw us at least 11 times during the year. How much can we possibly have to say? Take a look and see.

Our People

Did you know that we have over 600 volunteers at Guide Dogs Victoria? And last year we had over 50,000 donors! With less than 9% funding from the government, we really couldn’t do what we do without their support. So, sometimes, we like to just stop and take a day to get on the phones to call and say a big Thank you!

The World's First Sensory Campus

Guide Dogs Victoria’s vision for the future is bold and tactile! By 2021 our Kew Campus will be transformed into the world’s first Sensory Campus. Visitors will be able to navigate our site on a single sense, via smell, sound, texture and human enabled technology. This vision will set Guide Dogs Victoria on a path to extraordinary new heights and see us revolutionise the way we provide support.
