
Guide Dogs Victoria has developed an educational kit for primary school students - which is available on request.
The kit consists of print based information cards, activity cards and teachers notes with curriculum mapping to the Curriculum Standards Framework 2. It also contains vision impairment simulation sheets, how to read Braille and a sample of Braille for a "fingers on" test, a colourful Guide Dog poster and puppy stickers.
The pack promotes and provides information on:
- fostering an understanding and acceptance of people who are vision impaired;
- providing guidance on how to interact and communicate with blind or vision impaired people in a non-discriminatory way - including those people who use a Guide Dog;
- how the eye works, with advice on protection of the eyes;
- providing facts about people who are blind or vision impaired and the most common visual impairments;
- vision impairment and the brain
- informing students about the work of Guide Dogs Victoria and the services it provides to assist vision impaired people regain independent mobility and improved quality of life.
